Dear members,

Saturday, 25 September 2021 – The Jumping Individual Competition was held at the Equestrian Venue of the Qinhan New City, Xixian New District today. Our sole Hong Kong representative Kenneth Cheng riding Funchal competed against other 23 combinations at the two rounds competition.

Kenneth finished the first round this morning under the heavy rain with 8 penalties, followed by only 5 penalties in the second round this afternoon. After the 2 rounds competition, Kenneth and Funchal ranked fifth at the time of 79.02 seconds, with just 3.77 seconds behind the fourth placed rider from Beijing who also shared 13 penalties. The Gold Medal went to Liang Ruiji from Guangdong while the Silver and Bronze Medals belonged to Duan Yihua and Xu Hao from Zhejiang respectively.

“I’m very pleased with my horse as he did an exceptional job under the bad weather. I only had less than one month time to train with him as my first choice horse was injured early this month. The heavy rain this morning affected me the most at the first round but the overall performance exceeded my expectations. Thank you everyone who have supported me,” said Kenneth after the competition.

The HKEF would like to thank Kenneth for his effort in achieving the fifth place at the 14th China National Games. Gratitude goes to Hong Kong Sports Institute and Leisure, Cultural Services Department and The Hong Kong Jockey Club, who have provided continuous support and assistance throughout Kenneth’s journey to the CNG. Last but not least, thank you to all supporters and members who have cheered for Kenneth over the last few days.

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
