The EFHKC Inter-school Equestrian Challenge
The EFHKC Inter-school Equestrian Challenge is currently the largest equestrian competition for youth in Hong Kong. From its humble beginnings in 2007, with 12 riders from 3 schools, the competition now regularly sees a field of almost 140 riders from over 25 schools. It gives Hong Kong students a chance to represent their schools in equestrian competitions and encourages them to improve their riding skills alongside their team members and peers.
In the competition, riders compete on drawn horses in dressage and showjumping for individual and team prizes. Riders may, depending on age, enter either the Higher Division or the Lower Division. Riders aged 10-14 qualify for the Lower Division, and are required to complete a preliminary dressage test and jump a course of up to 50 cm. Riders aged 12-16 are eligible for the Higher Division, in which they complete a preliminary dressage test and jump a course of up to 80 cm.
In both Higher and Lower divisions, heats are held to determine which teams (comprising 3 or 4 riders) will represent their schools in the final. In the heats, the scores of the top three riders in each team count towards the team score. The four teams with the highest team scores will qualify for the final, and the team with the highest score in the final will be the winner. In the heats and in the final, individual prizes are awarded to the top riders in each discipline, based on their individual scores.
The winning team in Higher Division will have the opportunity to spend a week training at Ingestre Stables, UK. The Ann Baron Memorial Cup will be awarded to the winning Lower Division team, who will also receive training in Hong Kong from a leading trainer in November.
The EFHKC Inter-school Equestrian Challenge is fortunate to have a subvention from LCSD, as well as the support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), Lo Wu Saddle Club and Tuen Mun Public Riding School throughout the years. In 2019 and 2020, the series was additionally sponsored by The Equestrian Foundation Limited (The Foundation), a charitable organisation sharing the same aspiration to educate and nurture students and young people in Hong Kong. The Foundation was established in 2016 by Dr. Simon Ip, JP, former President of the EFHKC and former Chairman of HKJC, to promote local equestrianism through education and broader participation.

The EFHKC Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge
The EFHKC Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge was added to the Inter-school series in 2018 to include an eventing competition for accomplished riders aged 14-18. The Senior competition is based around the Beas River Equestrian Centre (BREC) One Day Events and the EFHKC Eventing Horse of the Year Show (Eventing HOYS) – i.e. riders must compete in dressage, showjumping and cross-country. Representing their schools, riders compete as individuals for a HK$10,000 top prize.
Participating riders must take part in at least two scheduled BREC eventing competitions and complete at least one to qualify for the final. To encourage riders making progress throughout the season, the best result achieved in regular eventing competitions, together with the scores in the final, contribute to the overall score to determine the winner.
