Background
Yuxuan Su is a young aspiring event rider, representing Hong Kong and competing up to international 3* level. Over the last few years, his best achievements include winning an individual bronze medal at the Asian Eventing Championships in 2017, winning a team silver medal at the Asian Equestrian Championships in 2019, and riding for Team Hong Kong at the 2018 Asian Games.
Yuxuan sat on a pony for the first time at age seven in Lei Yue Mun riding school. As he spent more time riding and having horses on livery and lesson at Clearwater Bay Equestrian Centre, his passion for equestrian sport grew, and he began to take part in local shows and competitions. As part of Hong Kong Jockey Club's Junior Equestrian Team in 2012, he gained invaluable experience training and competing ex-racehorses, which he and his family worked with. After completing secondary school, Yuxuan continued to train with Clive Reed and Lucinda Fredericks. He continued to grow in his skills competing in local classes and FEI World Dressage Challenge and jumping classes. He began eventing in Hong Kong. He then started working with Howard Green, who has since become his most supportive backer and owner, when he was offered horses to begin eventing in the UK with; this was also when he was introduced to his trainers Tanya and Mark Kyle, who Howard had already worked with for many years. With these horses and support, Yuxuan completed his first eventing season in the UK in 2017. At the end of that year, Yuxuan flew the Hong Kong flag at the FEI Asian Eventing Championships in Thailand, where he won the individual bronze medal. Since then, he has continued to compete in national and international events in the UK and Europe, competing up to 3* level. His achievements led him to being a part of Team Hong Kong at the Asian Games 2018, and the silver medal eventing team at the FEI Asian Championships 2019.
Yuxuan continues to compete at international level, with aspirations of progressing and developing as an athlete, and to represent Hong Kong in future championships. He also balances his riding career with academia, and acheives a Master’s degree at King's College London.
