Jacqueline Siu

Background

Hong Kong born Jacqueline Siu became passionate about horses very early on, and by the age of five she was already riding horses at the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Beas River Equestrian Centre. Jacqueline moved to England when she was 10. Her continued dedication enabled her to compete at International Pony, Junior, and Young Rider levels whilst progressing with her education. Having graduated from University College London, Jacqueline decided to pursue a career with horses.

A former Young Rider Champion with her horse Jamiro, Jacqueline began competing at senior level and made the decision to base herself in the Netherlands to train with multiple Olympic gold medalist Anky van Grunsven in 2006. This was a huge influence on Jacqueline, and through her hard work and dedication she was able to earn the respect of top riders and trainers. Anky van Grunsven said, “Jacqueline is a talented rider with good feeling.  She makes sure the horses are fit and healthy and is able to challenge them to better their performance.”

In 2012, Jacqueline became the first Asian rider to have ever qualified and competed at the FEI/WBFSH World Championship for Young Dressage Horse in Verden, Germany.

Jacqueline has represented Hong Kong at many International competitions up to Grand Prix level, and in three previous and consecutive Asian Games in 2006, 2010 and 2014.  At the Asian Games 2014, Jacqueline and her horse Ferrera narrowly missed an individual medal and placed 4th individually.  Having trained this horse herself since the horse was an unbacked two year old, they have developed a wonderful partnership and have since gone on to compete up to International Grand Prix 4* level.

In July 2017 and June 2018, Jacqueline and Ferrera finished with 66.440% at the CDI3* Grand Prix, Hartpury and 67.543% at CDI3* Grand Prix, Harthill Bolesworth respectively, earning her qualification to the World Equestrian Games (WEG) 2018 Dressage Events. Jacqueline was the first Dressage rider representing Hong Kong at the WEG, which was also a significant new record for Hong Kong equestrian sports. 

Since 2016, Jacqueline has had the honour of training and competing for the Hong Kong Equestrian Performance Plan.  Riding Jockey Club Connery, Jacqueline has already developed a wonderful relationship with this horse and has had great success including a win at Keysoe CDI3* in 2017.  Later in 2017, Jacqueline started her training and competitions with Jockey Club Fuerst on Tour, who made a sensational debut with her at the 13th National Games, winning an individual dressage silver medal for Hong Kong. This pair competed again at the 18th Jakarta Asian Games and took home the first ever Dressage Individual Gold medal in Hong Kong equestrianism history.

At the Longines Masters of Hong Kong 2019, the great pair performed its Gold-winning test at the 18th Asian Games, bringing the audiences the beauty and elegance of Dressage.
