Hong Kong, China's Largest Team Ever Equestrian Team Roster

for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou

As the 19th Asian Games approaches, which will be held in Hangzhou, China from September to October 2023, athlete rosters for various competitions are gradually being finalized as representatives from each region prepare to compete for the best results. The Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong, China announces the athlete list for Hong Kong's equestrian team for the Asian Games.

The equestrian team consists of 11 rider-horse combinations, making it the largest equestrian team ever to represent Hong Kong, China at the Asian Games. The athletes have received unprecedented support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Equestrian Performance Plan and the Hong Kong Sports Institute's Elite training grant. This marks the first time that Hong Kong, China's equestrian team will compete in both individual and team events at the Asian Games, including Dressage, Showjumping, and Eventing. In preparation for the Asian Games, all team members are currently undergoing training in Europe.

Hong Kong, China equestrian athletes have enjoyed success on the international stage in recent years. Since Aram Gregory, Jacqueline Siu, and Lily Chui-Zilo finished 4th in the Dressage team event at the 2006 Doha Asian Games, Hong Kong, China riders have consistently performed well at subsequent Asian Games, including a historic bronze medal in team Showjumping at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games (featuring Kenneth Cheng, Jacqueline Lai, Patrick Lam, and Samantha Lam). At the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, the team won another bronze in team Eventing (featuring Thomas Ho, Nicole Pearson, and Annie Ho), while individual riders Annie Ho (Eventing) and Jacqueline Siu (Dressage) achieved excellent fourth-place finishes. In the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games, Jacqueline Siu won Hong Kong, China's first-ever individual equestrian gold medal in Dressage. Other international accomplishments include Jacqueline Siu winning the individual Dressage Silver Medalist at the 13th National Games in Tianjin 2017, while the team of Yu Xan and Patrick Lam won the Silver Medal in Team Eventing, and Patrick Lam and Jacqueline Lai secured the Gold Medal in Team Jumping (1.40m) at the FEI Asian Championships in Pattaya 2019.

Mr. Michael Lee, President of the Equestrian Federation of Hong Kong, China, stated, "Thanks to the unwavering spirit and hard work of Hong Kong, China's riders, as well as the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Sports Institute, the standard of Hong Kong, China's equestrian athletes has been continuously improving. As Hong Kong sends its largest-ever equestrian team to participate in the upcoming Asian Games, the Hangzhou Asian Games will be an important milestone for Hong Kong, China's equestrian sport. I am truly grateful for their efforts and contributions to Hong Kong, China's equestrian sport, and wish the entire equestrian team the best of luck, and hope they return to Hong Kong with great success and pride!"
