Background

Riding has been a lifelong pursuit for Raena. She first learned to ride at the age of six at Lei Yue Mun Public Riding School before switching to The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Beas River Equestrian Centre.

After her Master’s Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Raena decided to pursue riding full time.

Over the years Raena has trained under many well-established trainers and riders including 2002 World Champion, Dermott Lennon of Ireland, world-renowned Dutch trainer, Henk Nooren, and six-time Japanese Olympian Taizo Sugitani.

Raena had her breakthrough year in 2012, when she became overall Champion of the FEI World Cup China League and attained numerous international placings up to five-star level with her current trainer Mike Patrick Leichle from Germany.

Raena became the first rider in showjumping to represent Hong Kong at a FEI World Cup Final held in Gothenburg, 2013 and a World Equestrian Games held in Normandy 2014.

With her good results, Raena was recruited into the HKJC Senior Jumping Equestrian Team in August, 2013.

In 2019, Raena won a team jumping gold medal and an individual jumping bronze medal at FEI Asian Championship in Pattaya, Thailand.
