Dear members,

The 2021 – 2022 season has been a disruptive one. Our local competitions kicked off in last September but was forced to end early at the beginning of January 2022 due to the closure of riding schools. With a relatively low events completion rate and the cancellation of our annual flagship event, Horse of the Year Show, the HKEF Season End Awards namely the Dressage Horse of the Year Award, Eventing Horse of the Year Award, the Longines Jumping Horse of the Year Award, Wrinklies Rice Bowl, the Grimshaw Plate, the Overall Horse of the Year Award and the Best Junior Award will not be presented.

Nevertheless, we were encouraged by the progress that many riders have made despite the challenges and we saw some promising performances in the Dressage, Eventing and Jumping shows that we were able to run. To recognize the effort and achievements of riders during the unsteady and difficult situation, the HKEF is exceptionally awarding the top performers of all disciplines with the HKEF Awards for 2021 – 2022 (see below).

At the same time, the Hong Kong Jockey Club also continues their sponsorship to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best “Newcomer” Retired Racehorse Award and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best Retired Racehorse Award, with the aim to reward the outstanding performance of retired racehorses after their racing careers.

Despite the cancellation of this year’s LONGINES Jumping Horse of the Year Show, LONGINES continues to partner the awards for the Leading Jumping Combination, as well as the Leading Junior Rider. The Leading Jumping Combination will be awarded an elegant LONGINES timepiece, while the Leading Junior Rider will be awarded a cash prize at HK$2,000. The Hong Kong Equestrian Federation would like to warmly thank LONGINES and The Hong Kong Jockey Club for their continuous support.

Congratulations to all winners and our sincere gratitude to all riding schools, partners, officials, riders and supporting team who work tirelessly behind the scene to support the development of our sport under these challenging conditions. Looking forward, we hope to bring the Horse of the Year Shows and Awards back to scene in the coming new season.

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
