Dear members,

HKEF Volunteers’ Briefing for the Longines Masters of Hong Kong 2020

To prepare the upcoming Longines Masters of Hong Kong 2020 (LMHK), a volunteers’ briefing organized by HKEF was held at Central Complex, Shatin Racecourse this afternoon.

Organized by the EEM, Co-organized by the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation, the Asian and first leg of the Masters series, the Longines Masters of Hong Kong 2020 will be held from 14 – 16 February 2020 (Fri – Sun) at AsiaWorld-Expo.

Since the first Longines Masters of Hong Kong in 2013, HKEF has been providing a team of trained volunteers who are experienced in sports events or equestrian sports to support the event every year. Being the co-organizer for the eighth consecutive year, the HKEF will send over 250 volunteers to assist the operations of the event. This year, HKEF has worked with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Agency for Volunteer Service and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) for the volunteers’ recruitment. Within these three organizations, IVE helped to recruit their students as volunteers mainly for the Educational tours during the Longines Masters of Hong Kong. As of today, over 700 students from IVE have participated in the Masters before. This year, 100 new students from IVE will help on the education tours for schools students as well as members of different NGOs.

To provide the latest information and further equip all our volunteers, a volunteers’ briefing was held at Central Complex, Shatin Racecourse this afternoon. Over 140 potential volunteers attended the Final briefing held this afternoon at the Shatin Racecourse. Mr. David Li, Operations Manager, EEM (Organizer of LMHK) and Ms. Angela Kong, Secretary General of HKEF were speakers at the briefing. Contents on latest event information, activities as well as volunteers’ roles and responsibilities were all being covered.

Volunteers play a key role in supporting the captioned event in many different areas, such as Accreditations or Information Counters, Grandstands, Crowd Management, VIP guests’ hospitality, Translators and Course Building, etc. Among all positions, members of the Piste Crew team play the most challenging role as they will be responsible for the Course Building of all the competitions during the Masters. Since all competitions will be held in live, piste crew team will be performing under great time pressure to build the competition courses in a timely manner.  One of the Assistant Course Designers of LMHK 2020, Mr. Michael Sin shared his experience with all attendants in leading the Piste Crew during previous Masters.

The HKEF would like to express our gratitude to all volunteers and we believe that with our concerted efforts, we can have a successful Longines Masters of Hong Kong 2020.
