HKEF getting ready for CCI1* with Fence Judges’ Training on 2 Nov 2019 (Sat)

Dear members,

To prepare for the CCI1* Hong Kong 2019 scheduled in December, a series of Fence Judges’ seminars have been organized by the HKEF with the objective to nurture and recruit more fence judges for the cross-country phase. Following the Fence Judges’ Seminar held in early September, a further Fence Judges’ Training by Mr. James Pearson, Technical Delegate of the CCI1*, was held on last Saturday 2 November 2019 alongside with the Beas River Equestrian Centre One Day Event (BREC ODE).

Mr. Pearson started off with a theory session by introducing the role and responsibilities of fence judges, the judging theory and the differences between the rules for local shows and the CCI1*. Common issues at fence judging were illustrated by Mr. Joss Gray, HKJC Senior Eventing Coach with cross-country videos. After the theory session, all participants were invited to attend the Fence Judges’ briefing as well as took part in the fence judging of BREC ODE.

Among all participants, all existing fence judges were allocated to different fences throughout the 80cm, 90cm and 105cm classes while the new comers were given an opportunity to carry out shadow judging at fences.

The HKEF would like to express our gratitude to Mr. James Pearson and Mr. Joss Gray for their sharing at the seminar. Our appreciation also goes to supportive fence judges who actively participated in our preparation for the upcoming CCI1*.

The CCI1* Hong Kong 2019 will be held from 13 to 14 December 2019 at BREC with a total of 3 classes open for entries (80cm, 90cm and 105cm). With the growing popularity of eventing in Hong Kong, we are happy to have this FEI international eventing competition back in town again after the last CCI1* hosted in 2011.

Horse-rider combinations must achieve the Minimum Eligibility Requirements (MER) at any one of the appointed four BREC One Day Events to qualify for the CCI1*. As of the third qualifying ODE last Saturday, 8 combinations have gained their qualifications so far. The last event for riders to earn the MER will be the BREC ODE on 30 November 2019. We are getting ready for this exciting event, please stay tuned for our updates on the CCI1*!

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
