Dear members,

An online sharing session on endurance riding was held this afternoon. Ms. BoBo Poon and Mr. Jason Tse, Hong Kong representatives at the FEI World Equestrian Games in 2014, were the speakers of the sharing session.

At the beginning of the sharing session, BoBo provided an introduction on Endurance riding, such as different levels of endurance competitions, endurance rules, horses for endurance riding, necessary preparation for riders and horses before entering into competitions, etc. “Endurance is a long-distance race up to 160km, testing the stamina and fitness of both rider and the horse against track, distance, terrain, climate and clock without compromising the welfare of the horse in a manageable and safe condition. It requires a strong bond between the rider and horse as they rely on each other during the long course,” said BoBo.

Both BoBo and Jason later went on to share their own journeys from a leisure rider to a competitor at the FEI World Equestrian Games in 2014. Many behind the scene preparation, stories and experiences in taking part in endurance races around the world were shared with all participants. In Jason’s mind, “Most people enter endurance events not to win but to ride beautiful, well-marked trails with their beloved horses. Endurance riding brings you extraordinary experiences. Instead of riding in a paddock, endurance gives you the opportunity to ride in all kinds of natural scenery and the feeling of total freedom.” Started riding at the age of 52, Jason’s riding story has proven one of the uniqueness of equestrian sport on no age limit. The sharing session ended with an interactive Q & A discussion among members.

The HKEF would like to express its gratitude to BoBo and Jason for their sharing of experience. We hope that all members enjoyed the session and found endurance riding interesting.

Please also feel free to share with us any suggestions or ideas for future online sessions. We really appreciate your opinion so we can provide a wide variety of your favourite contents.

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
