Dear members,

The Hong Kong Equestrian Federation has always been a champion for uniting our riding community to work towards a common interest. In a sporting environment, the high adrenaline that comes with the inherent excitement could lead anyone to act irrationally at times, and as a result, conflicts become the inevitable by-product. This could pose a challenge to the duty Competition Officials when judgments have to be delivered to recipients who are emotionally charged.

To better equip our Competition Officials in handling conflicts, an online webinar “Effective Communication and Conflict Resolution in a Sporting Environment” was held for all HKEF officials yesterday evening and we were honoured to have Mr. Norris Yang as our speaker.

Mr. Yang has many years of solid experience in the field of dispute resolution. In addition to being a practising lawyer for many years, Mr. Yang is also the Chairman of the Communications and Publicity Committee of the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited. This year, Mr. Yang is recognized by the Who's Who Legal as one of the 25 Global Elite “Thought Leaders for Mediation”.

The training started off with an introduction to Conflict Theory and the importance in managing conflicts. We also took a look at the different effective negotiation and communication skills to deal with parties in conflicts. Real-life scenarios previously encountered by our Officials were also discussed and addressed towards the later part of the seminar.

The HKEF would like to thank Mr. Yang for sharing his knowledge and experience with us, and to all Officials who attended the webinar.

Please also feel free to share with us any suggestions or ideas for future online sessions. We really appreciate your opinion so that we can provide a wide variety of your favourite contents.

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
