Qualifying

Riders should be aged 14-18 years (as on 1 January 2023) *, attending school and riding regularly in Hong Kong.

* A rider younger than 14 years may be allowed to enter, subject to approval by the organisers.

Participating riders must take part in at least two scheduled BREC Eventing competitions, competing in any class, and completing all disciplines satisfactorily in at least one. The dates of the one-day events at BREC in the 2022/23 season are 15, 29 October, 12 November, 3 December 2022, 14 January & 4 - 5 February 2023 (Eventing Horse of the Year Warm-up show).

A rider’s best result achieved in any of the scheduled BREC Eventing competitions (i.e. between 15 October 2022 and 5 February 2023) will contribute to their overall score in the HKEF Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge 2022 (see below).

Horses

It is not necessary that the rider enter the same horse for each competition.

It should be noted that horses for this competition are not provided by the HKEF: competitors will need to make their own arrangements (e.g. with their regular riding school or livery yard). The HKEF is not liable for related costs, such as horse hire, transportation, etc.

The Final and Overall Score

The final of the HKEF Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge 2023 shall take place as part of the HKEF Eventing Horse of the Year Show (CCI*) on 4 - 5 March 2023 (Saturday - Sunday).

Riders may take part in either the 80 cm / 90cm or the 100 cm class of the HKEF Eventing HOYS.

The first place will be awarded to the rider with the lowest accumulated penalties, scored as follows:

20% of the penalties drawn from a rider’s best result in any of the earlier BREC Eventing competitions (15 October 2022 - 5 February 2023) will be added to the rider’s total penalties acquired in the HKEF Eventing HOYS (CCI*).

For a rider competing in a higher class (i.e. 100 cm) of the HKEF Eventing HOYS (CCI*), the total penalties accrued will be divided by 1.15. This divisor is applied to recognise the increased challenge of the higher class.
