Welcome to the LONGINES Jumping Horse of the Year Show 2016. Each year, the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation organizes the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) which is the premier series of equestrian events in Hong Kong. The first of these events is the Eventing Horse of the Year Show which is held in March followed by the Dressage Horse of the Year Show held in early April. The LONGINES Jumping Horse of the Year Show is the finale and marks the end of the competition season.
The development of our sport is made possible with the staunch support of our close partners. We have built a close connection with the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) and have taken full advantage of its competition programs and expertise. The annual FEI World Dressage and Jumping Challenge enable local riders to compete on their own horses at international standards in front of FEI judges. In August 2015, the first FEI coaching course was held in Hong Kong to further develop local knowledge and coaching skills, and we hope that this is the first of many such events. In March 2016, we invited a FEI 4* judge, Mr. Alain FRANCQUEVILLE from France, to provide training to our local riders. On 9 – 10 April 2016, another FEI qualified judge, Ms. Wan Ming ONG from Malaysia, was invited to be our foreign judge at the Dressage Horse of the Year Show.
I would like to thank the FEI for its support in developing our local programs and my sincere appreciation to Mr. Ingmar DE VOS, President of FEI, for his encouraging message.
We must also thank our long-term Official Partner, The Hong Kong Jockey Club. The Club’s equestrian team has made significant contribution to the success of the HOYS. Its Beas River Equestrian Centre assisted in organizing the warm-up competitions prior to the three Horse of the Year Shows while its public riding schools fully supported our clinics and events.
Once again, we are honoured to have LONGINES as our Title Partner for the Jumping Horse of the Year Show. Its generous support plays an important role in the development of the equestrian sport in Hong Kong.
The success of the LONGINES Jumping Horse of the Year Show is attributed to the unfailing support by all the riding schools, officials, competitors and parents, volunteers and HKEF staff. We are also grateful to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for its commitment to this event. Finally, I would like to congratulate all the competitors and hope that they have all gained valuable experience from the HOYS.
