The HKEF Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge 2020 is based around the BREC[1] Eventing and Horse of the Year (HOY) Eventing competitions (i.e.riders must compete in dressage, showjumping and cross-country). This is a competition for accomplished riders aged 14-18.  Representing their schools, riders will be competing as individuals for the top prize ofHK$10,000.

Riders should be aged 14-18 years (as on 1stJanuary, 2020), attending a school and riding regularly in Hong Kong.

Competing riders must take part in at least two scheduled BREC Eventing competitions, competing in either class, and complete at least one without elimination. The Eventing dates at BREC are Sep 21, Oct 12, Nov 2, 30 , Dec 13-15 & Feb 1 (the Eventing HOY warm-up show).

A rider’s best result achieved in any of the scheduled BREC eventing competitions (i.e. between September 21 and February 1) will contribute to their overall score in the HKEF Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge 2020 (see below).

It is not necessary that a rider enters on the same horse for each competition.

It should be noted that horses for this competition are not provided by the HKEF: competitors will need to make their own arrangements (e.g., with their regular riding school or livery yard). The HKEF is not liable for related costs, such as horse hire, transportation, etc.

The Final and Overall Score

The final of the HKEF Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge 2020 shall take place as part of the Eventing Horse of the Year Show on 14 March 2020.

Riders may take part in either the 80cm or the 100cm class of the Eventing Horse of the Year Show.

First place will be awarded to the rider with the lowest accumulated penalties, scored as follows:

20% of the penalties drawn from a rider’s best result in any of the earlier BREC eventing competitions (Sep 21 – Feb 1) will be added to the rider’s total penalties acquired in the Eventing Horse of the Year Show.

For a rider competing in the higher (100cm) class of the Eventing Horse of the Year Show, the total penalties accrued will be divided by 1.15. This divisor is applied to recognise the increased challenge of this class.
