Hong Kong (Hong Kong), August 16, 2014 – In exactly one week the seventh edition of the FEI World Equestrian Games will kick off in Normandy, France! The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 will be the biggest in the event’s 24-year history, with approximately 1000 athletes from 74 nations expected to compete in the 8 different FEI disciplines, namely Dressage, Driving, Endurance, Eventing, Jumping, Para-Dressage, Reining and Vaulting, in front of half a million expected spectators!
There will be 3000 volunteers working around the venues, along with 1000 journalists and 300 photographers. The Games will also be broadcasted in over 200 territories worldwide, bringing the best of international equestrian sport to a bigger audience than ever before.
These huge numbers of people will all gather together in the breath-taking region of Normandy, who is world-famous for its horse-breeding and sporting connections. The city of Caen will be the central location for the Games and will host the opening and closing ceremonies, the Jumping and Dressage competitions, as well as the Jumping test of the Eventing competition at its D’Ornano Stadium. The Para-Dressage and Driving competitions will take place in the Prairie racecourse, in the city-center, and the “Zenith” indoor arena and the exhibition center will respectively be the home of the Vaulting and Reining competitions. The Endurance venue will be at the bay of Mont St Michel, located in the La Manche area. This iconic island which is located just 600 meters from the mainland is one of the most recognizable landmarks in France and welcomes three million visitors each year. The spectacular Endurance course will begin at the town of Sartilly and will circle around the bay.
Hong Kong along with 12 other countries will be making its debut at this major event, by having representatives in the Endurance, Jumping and Para-Dressage events. This is a huge accomplishment for Hong Kong equestrianism to have a total of 9 athletes holding our red and white flag in the biggest equestrian event in the world.
