Update on HKEF Horse of the Year Shows & HKEF Season End Awards for 2019 – 2020

2020/03/17

Dear members,

Update on HKEF Horse of the Year Shows & HKEF Season End Awards for 2019 – 2020

The 2019-2020 competition season has seen a number of disruptions owing to social events and disease outbreak in Hong Kong. This has resulted in some scheduled events published at the beginning of the season being postponed, such as the FEI Jumping World Challenge 2019 3rd Competition; or cancelled, for example the FEI Jumping Children’s Classics Final 2019 and the Eventing Horse of the Year Show. In light of the current government recommendation on reducing public events to minimize risk of COVID-19 disease spread, and the subsequent precautionary measures taken by HKJC to cancel all the horse shows and events until further notice, it is anticipated that there would be further disruptions to the published show schedule.

In the interest of clarity, in view of prevailing conditions, Horse of Year (HOY) points will be accumulated on all graded events, published in the show schedule at the beginning of the show season, that have taken place before 6 June 2020 (Sat). This includes events that have been postponed. No points will be awarded for originally published events that are canceled. Winners of the HOY and End of Season Awards will be determined based on accumulated HOY points as per published rules. This above is applied to the following Horse of Year and End of Season Awards:

l   Jumping Horse of the Year Award (The Good King Cup)

l   Eventing Horse of the Year Award

l   Dressage Horse of the Year Award (Dragon Hall Dressage Trophy)

l   Overall Horse of the Year Award (Helen Griffiths Memorial Trophy)

l   Junior Rider of the Year Award (Jose Remedios Memorial Trophy)

l   The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best Retired Racehorse Award

l   The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best ‘Newcomer’ Retired Racehorse Award (Eventing, Jumping & Dressage)

Given the current cancellation of all horse shows at BREC until further notice, Horse of the Year Show in the remaining two disciplines are still subject to confirmation, and maybe cancelled or postponed. These include the Longines Jumping Horse of the Year Show 2020, originally scheduled for 25 April, 2020 (Sat) and Dressage Horse of the Year Show originally scheduled for 30th and 31st May, 2020 (Sat & Sun).

If the Longines Jumping Horse of the Year Show 2020 is cancelled, Grimshaw Plate and the Wrinklies Rice Bowl will not be awarded this year. Attached please find our updated Events Calendar as of 17 March 2020 and the published HKEF Season End Awards Calculation Method for your information.

HKEF is liaising closely with all relevant stakeholders and endeavor to announce confirmed arrangements for the remaining named events as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding under the current challenging circumstances.

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
