Two New HKEF End of Season Awards sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club (Correction)
The Hong Kong Jockey Club will sponsor us two new Horse of the Year Awards this year!
Horse of the Year Show is always one of the highlights for Hong Kong Equestrian Federation (HKEF) every year. In this big event, we have received dedicated support from many parties. One of them is The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), which is our long-standing official partner in promoting equestrian sports. HKJC does not only support HKEF in organizing spectacular equestrian competitions at its venues, but also nurtures future equestrian talents and protects horse welfare with the establishment of public riding schools. More importantly, it rendered a second career to many local retired racehorses.
Beas River Equestrian Centre (BREC) of the Hong Kong Jockey Club is a world leader in providing a structured retraining programme for retired racehorses. After their racing careers, all horses that are not exported for retirement overseas are carefully assessed by the HKJC veterinary team. Over the years, many retired racehorses have achieved outstanding performance in equestrian sports. To name a few, Hot Pot was awarded with the Grimshaw Plate Award for 5 years in 2008 – 2011 and 2013. He was also the winner of Jumping Horse of the Year Award for seven consecutive years from 2007-2013. Another retired racehorse, Quick Money, was the winner of Overall Horse of the Year Award in 2017 and 2018, as well as the winner of Eventing Horse of the Year Award in 2014 & 2016-2018. Their outstanding achievements have greatly proved the potential of retired racehorses in equestrian sports.
In light of recognizing the tremendous contribution of retired racehorses and encouraging more of them to take part in local equestrian shows, we are delighted to announce the establishment of two new awards, sponsored by the HKJC, namely The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best Retired Racehorse Award（香港賽馬會最佳退役馬獎）and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best ‘Newcomer’ Retired Racehorse Award（香港賽馬會新晉退役馬獎）in addition to the HKEF Seven Annual Season End Awards, namely The Good King Cup, Dragon Hall Dressage Trophy, Eventing Horse of The Year Award, The Helen Griffiths Memorial Trophy, Grimshaw Plate, The Jose Remedios Memorial Trophy and The Wrinklies Rice Bowl.
Details of the two New Awards sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club are as follows:
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best Retired Racehorse Award is an award for the best retired racehorse that has competed in all three disciplines (Jumping, Dressage & Eventing) during the season. This Best Retired Racehorse Award will be awarded to the retired racehorse which has the highest combined HOY ranking according to the ranking lists of the three individual disciplines. Should there be a tie in the combined ranking at the end of the season, the retired racehorses tied for first place will be declared the joint winner for the award.
Meanwhile, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best ‘Newcomer’ Retired Racehorse Award is an award for the best ‘newcomer’ retired racehorse(s) in each of the disciplines (Jumping, Dressage or Eventing) during their first graded competition season in that discipline. A Best ‘Newcomer’ Retired Racehorse Award will be awarded to the ‘newcomer’ retired racehorse(s) which achieved the highest placing among the ‘newcomer’ retired racehorses according to the HOY ranking list before the end of its first graded competition season in the respective discipline.
We would like to express our gratitude to HKJC for their generous sponsorship of the two named new Awards for the retired racehorses. We look forward to seeing more retired racehorses participating in our local equestrian competitions and wish all of you every success in this season!
