Organized by the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation, supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Eventing Horse of the Year Show will be held on this Saturday, 30 March 2019 at Beas River Equestrian Centre, kicking off the 2018-19 HKEF Horse of the Year Show. This event will provide the last opportunity for all riders to gain their accumulated points in the Eventing discipline, competing for the Eventing Horse of the Year Award.

There will be two classes at the event, including the 80cm competition and 100cm competition. Apart from the Eventing Horse of the Year Award, results of these two classes will also be counted for the HKEF Senior Inter-school Equestrian Challenge 2019 Final.

Created in 2018 by Dr. Simon Griffin, the Senior Inter-school Equestrian Challenge is the largest equestrian competition for young riders in Hong Kong. While the current Inter-school Equestrian Challenge requires riders to compete in both dressage and showjumping, the Senior competition has added the cross-country to these disciplines this year so that it can encourage versatile riders and potential eventers to participate in the local competition. In the 2019 edition of the Senior Challenge, 10 junior riders aged 16-18 who qualified to the Final by competing in 2 Eventing Competitions before without elimination. Winner of the HKEF Senior Inter-school Equestrian Challenge 2019 Final will receive a total of HK$10,000 training voucher at local Public Riding Schools.

We were thrilled to have a record high competitors this year for the competitions. As of today, 22 and 10 entries were received for the 80cm and 100cm class respectively. Last year, Kerry Freeman riding Secret of Winning and Dennis Cassidy with Chariots of Fire topped the 80cm class and 100cm class respectively. Upon the completion of the HOYS Eventing Warm Up Show at Beas River Equestrian Centre on 16 March 2019 (Saturday), Gabby Thomas with Emerald Butterfly is in the lead in Eventing with the highest accumulated points of 24, followed by Christian Allderidge on Charlie Victor with 20 points.

In two days, we will find out the final winners of the Eventing Horse of the Year Award 2018-2019 and Senior Inter-school Equestrian Challenge 2019. The HKEF would like to wish all riders the best of luck and thank you all for your longing support to our events.

Best regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
