Nathaniel Chan claimed the Gold Medal and Natasha earned the top 8 place at the 2nd Asian Equestrian Federation (AEF) Junior Jumping Championship 2017 Hong Kong (2nd – 3rd December, 2017)

Dear Members,

The 2nd Asian Equestrian Federation (AEF) Junior Jumping Championship 2017 Hong Kong hosted by Hong Kong Equestrian Federation (HKEF) was smoothly held over last weekend from 2nd – 3rd December, 2017 including 1st Qualification, 2nd Qualification and Final Competition over two rounds at Beas River Equestrian Centre, Sheung Shui.

Our two Hong Kong representatives, Nathaniel Chan with Koenigsberg and Natasha Lee with Queen Dragon, were on the list of the top 8 riders after the 1st Qualification at 1m and 2nd Qualification at 1.1m and both entered into the first round of the Final Competition at 1.2m. In the first round, Natasha was unfortunately forced to pull out due to two times of horse refusals while Nathaniel with Jockey Club Tilburg achieved a superb clear round and was among the top 4 riders together with Saidamirkhon Turgunboev from Uzbekistan with Willem XXL, Anna Alicia Khiem from Cambodia with Jockey Club Crunship as well as Kamil Sabitov from Kyrgyzstan with Claus Coster, and earned the qualification for the second round of the Final.

In the second round of the Final, Nathaniel with Jockey Club Tilburg finished with only one time fault at the time 60.45s and finally became the Gold medalist of the 2nd AEF Junior Jumping Championship 2017 Hong Kong. Saidamirkhon Turgunboev from Uzbekistan with Willem XXL took home the Silver Medal while Anna Alicia Khiem from Cambodia with Jockey Club Crunship and Kamil Sabitov from Kyrgyzstan with Claus Coster both became the Bronze medalists.

In the prize presentation, our Gold medalist Nathaniel Chan was presented the Asian Equestrian Federation badges, HKEF sash, rosette and trophy by Mr. Michael Lee, our President of Hong Kong Equestrian Federation and the Chairman of Organizing Committee, and Mr. Hamad Al Attiyah, the President of the Asian Equestrian Federation. The Silver medalist Saidamirkhon Turgunboev from Uzbekistan was given the awards by Dr. Simon Ip, the Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club while Mr. Jack Huang, the FEI Group VIII Chairperson, was responsible for presenting the awards to the two Bronze medalists Anna Alicia Khiem from Cambodia and Kamil Sabitov from Kyrgyzstan.

To further promote equestrian sports in Hong Kong, HKEF invited the general public from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, non-government organizations as well as photographic associations to attend the Championship over two days with the support of the Home Affairs Bureau. Based on our record, there were altogether 2,500 visitors attended the event. On top of the exciting jumping competitions, the audience also enjoyed a wide range of activities at the venue under nice weather, such as Fun Fun fishing Game, face painting, DIY & Game booths, bouncy ponies, meet-and-greet with Shetland ponies, photo corner as well as Chinese martial arts and Dragon dance performances.
