Invitation for Expression of Interest on Eventing Olympic Qualifier for Tokyo 2020 (Deadline: Friday 8 Feb 2019)
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualifier – Team Eventing 22-26 May 2019 Saumur, France
Please be informed that the FEI designated Olympic Qualification Event for Eventing to select two teams ( maximum 6 athletes) for Group F & G (includes Hong Kong) at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be held in Saumur between 22nd and 26th May. The level will be CCI3*-L.
This is a unique opportunity for us as the leading contenders in our group, Australia and New Zealand are already qualified and Japan, as hosts; have receive dan automatic entry. Although the new Olympic format only has three riders in a team, with all three scores counting, this selection event will run under the old format, i.e four riders in the team with one discard score. Therefore HKEF are looking for four riders to form our team for this qualifier and invite expressions of interest from potential team members.
Please note the FEI minimum eligibility requirements (MER) that must be achieved by horse and rider combinations in order to participate in the CCI3*-L are as below:
- FEI uncategorized athlete: one MER at CCI2*-L and one MER at CCI3*-S or two MERs at CCI3*-S
- FEI Category D athlete: one MER at CCI2*-L or one MER at CCI3*-L
For reference, under FEI 2019 rules an MER is achieved by:
a) Dressage: not more than 45 penalty points
b) Cross Country: clear round at obstacles (excluding activation of one frangible device) and not more than 75 seconds exceeding the optimum time
c) Jumping Test: not more than 16 penalties at obstacles.
Attached please find the information on Qualification System for Tokyo 2020 Equestrian – Evenitng for your information. These MERs must be achieved at least 24 days before the start of the CCI3*-L cross country – i.e. by 30th April 2019 (Tuesday)
Note that to compete at a CCI3*-S, FEI will enforce the international MER requirements for the combination of horse and rider, i.e for uncategorised athletes this is one MER at CCI2*-S and for Category D athletes it is HKEF requirements only.
Please could interested riders let HKEF office know, via email, if they would like to be considered for the HK Team, together with their intended horse and plans to achieve the requisite MERs, by Friday 8th February 2019.
