Dear members,

In Memoriam of Alison Pauline King (1950 – 2020)

It is with great sadness that the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation learned of the passing of Mrs. Alison King on 3 March 2020, aged 69.

Mrs. Alison King is one of the most respected officials in the equestrian community in Hong Kong and internationally. Alison was actively involved within the equestrian community in Hong Kong, and was first appointed a FEI official in 2008. Since then, she qualified as a FEI 5* Para Dressage Judge, the first official in Hong Kong to achieve this level, a FEI 4* Dressage Judge, FEI 4* Dressage Judge for Young Horse, FEI Level 2 Steward for Jumping, Eventing, Dressage and Para Dressage, as well as Technical Delegate for Para Dressage. Alison was also appointed as Course Director for Para Dressage Steward from 2016.

Throughout her career in equestrian sport, she officiated in many FEI and local dressage competitions, including the World Equestrian Games 2014 Para Dressage, FEI Asian Championships 2019 Dressage, and HKEF Dressage Horse of the Year Shows in 2014, 2018 and 2019. Other than judging, Alison was also an active FEI Level 2 Steward. She was appointed as one of the Assistant Stewards for the Longines Masters of Hong Kong from 2013 to 2019.

In addition to her contribution as an official, Alison was also instrumental in training and development of officials, locally and for the FEI. She held the role of HKEF Senior Dressage Judge from 2008 to 2017 and conducted series of education seminars to nurture local Dressage Judges. She was also appointed as one of the Course Directors for the FEI Dressage Educative Event Pilot Project since 2014 and developed the nowadays Equestrian Sport Educative Event for Dressage Module funded by the FEI Solidarity.

The Hong Kong Equestrian Federation would like to express our sincere gratitude for Alison’s contributions in the development of the equestrian sport in Hong Kong in the past decades. Her smile, passion and enthusiasm will be forever missed by all of us. Alison is survived by her husband, Nigel and son Tam. Our deepest sympathies are with Nigel and Tam, family and friends at this difficult time.

Best Regards,
