Organized by the Chinese Equestrian Association, sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the LONGINES China Tour the Hong Kong Jockey Club Cup Guangzhou Final was held last weekend from 4 – 6 January 2019, Friday to Sunday at Guangzhou Huangcun Sport Centre. This event was also the final leg of the China Tour series of this season. As HKJC sponsored riders under the Hong Kong Equestrian Performance Plan (HKEPP), Kenneth Cheng, Patrick Lam and Raena Leung participated at the event, competing against 116 riders from overseas, mainland China and Chinese Taipei. Under keen competition, our Hong Kong riders achieved outstanding performances in multiple classes of the show.

Kenneth Cheng riding Pommeau du Heup earned the first place at the HKJC Champion Welcome competition (1.4m) on 5 January 2019 (Saturday), who finished the course with zero penalty in the shortest time of 58.67 seconds among 20 combinations. On the same day, Patrick Lam took home the fourth place at the LONGINES Challenge competition (1.45m) with the young Chinese stallion Freedom. The event reached its climax with the LONGINES Grand Prix (1.5m) on 6 January 2019, Sunday. A total of 38 horse-rider combinations competed at this Big class. The Grand Prix was run in the format of Table A against the clock, and with one jump-off in the case of equal penalties for the first place. Eventually, French rider Olivier Guillon with Cognac du Vlist Z claimed the first place and the second place was earned by Tongyan Liu riding Yu Long Qi Ji from China.
