The final competition of the HKEF Horse of the Year Show 2018-19, the Dressage Horse of the Year Show 2019 will be held tomorrow and Sunday (18-19 May 2019) at Beas River Equestrian Centre. This event will be the last chance for all riders to gain their accumulated points in the Dressage discipline, competing for the Dressage Horse of the Year Award 2019.

 

Over the next two days, competitions at five different Dressage levels will be conducted, including the Preliminary, Novice, Elementary, Advanced Medium and Advanced classes. Each class consists of two competitions and all riders are required to compete in both competitions of the level in order to get a placing in that class. Both competitions of the Preliminary and Novice classes will be held on the same day on 18 May 2019, Saturday while two competitions of the rest of the classes will be held over 18 & 19 May 2019. Besides a group of professional local show officials, Ms. Gena Marjanovic from Singapore was invited to be the foreign judge of this event.

 

The latest Dressage Horse of the Year 2019 Leader Board has super keen competition. As of today, Samantha Chan with Luciano topped the Board with 30 accumulated points followed by Martina Trommershausen with just 1 point behind. Charmaine Fu with Don Le Beau are on the third place with 27 points.

 

 

 

This year, a total of nine Horse of the Year Perpetual Trophies will be presented to the outstanding horses and riders in the current season. The list of Trophies are listed as below:

 

1.         Good King Cup (Jumping Horse of  the Year Award): the best-performing Jumping horse-rider combination in the season of 2018/19

 

2.         Dragon Hall Dressage Trophy (Dressage Horse of the Year Award): the best-performing Dressage horse-rider combination in the season of 2018/19

 

3.         Eventing Horse of the Year Award: the best-performing Eventing horse-rider combination in the season of 2018/19

 

4.         Helen Griffiths Memorial Trophy (Overall Horse of the Year Award): the best-performing horse-rider combination in the season of 2018/19 that has competed in                 all three disciplines (Jumping, Dressage and Eventing)

 

5.         LONGINES Grimshaw Plate: the winner of LONGINES Grimshaw Plate (120 cm) in the LONGINES Jumping Horse of the Year Show 2019

 

6.         Jose Remedios Memorial Trophy (Junior Rider of the Year Award) & HK$2,000 cash sponsored by LONGINES: the best-performing junior rider who is 18 years of   age or under on 1 September 2019 in the season of 2018/19

 

7.         LONGINES Wrinklies Rice Bowl: the winner who is 40 years of age or above in the class named LONGINES Wrinklies Rice Bowl Competition (70 cm) at the LONGINES Jumping Horse of the Year Show 2019

 

8.         The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best Retired Racehorse Award: the best retired racehorse that has competed in all three disciplines (Jumping, Dressage &             Eventing) during the season with the highest combined HOY ranking according to the ranking lists of the three individual disciplines

 

9.         The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best ‘Newcomer’ Retired Racehorse Award:  the best ‘newcomer’ retired racehorse(s) in each of the disciplines (Jumping,           Dressage or Eventing) during their first graded competition season in that discipline. A Best ‘Newcomer’ Retired Racehorse Award will be awarded to the ‘newcomer’      retired racehorse(s) which achieved the highest placing among the ‘newcomer’ retired racehorses according to the HOY ranking list before the end of its first          graded competition season in the respective discipline

 

As of today, the winners of five of 9 awards are confirmed. In two days, we will be able to find out the ultimate winners of the remaining awards, namely the  Dragon Hall Dressage Trophy (Dressage Horse of the Year Award), Helen Griffiths Memorial Trophy (Overall Horse of the Year Award), The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best Retired Racehorse Award and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Best ‘Newcomer’ Retired Racehorse Award.

 

All the above nine End of Season awards will be presented at the HKEF End of Season Awards Ceremony and Celebration Dinner 2019 on 25 May 2019 (Saturday), a week after the Dressage Horse of the Year Show.
