Dear Members,

The fifth heat of the Lower Division was held on Friday, 29 March 2019, completing the first round of the HKEF Inter-School Equestrian Challenge 2019.

The 13th edition of the competition involved five Lower Division heats held at Lo Wu Saddle Club and three Higher Division heats at Tuen Mun Public Riding School. Around 132 riders from 25 schools took part in the competition, proving the event’s increasing popularity in Hong Kong.

The four highest-scoring teams in each division will compete in the finals at Lo Wu Saddle Club on 3 and 4 May 2019 (Friday and Saturday). The teams are ranked by the total of each team’s top three individual scores in dressage and jumping.

The Higher Division finalists are: Kellett School (BISHK) with a score of 493.8; Renaissance College (RCHK) and King George V (KGV A1) with an equal score of 487.22, and German Swiss International School (GSIS) with 444.07.

The four teams from the Lower Division that will enter the finals are: Harrow International School (HISHK B1) with a score of 409.18; Canadian International School (CDNIS B1) with 404.27; Renaissance College (RCHK B1) with 401.95, and Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong (NAISHK) with 397.05.

The competition will begin with the Lower Division dressage competition on Friday afternoon, followed by the Higher Division dressage on Saturday morning. The showjumping rounds for both divisions will take place in the afternoon together with the Grand Awards Ceremony. An Equestrian Fair, organized by the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation, will be held at the competition venue on Saturday.

The finals will decide the winning teams from each division, as well as the top five individual riders from each division in both disciplines. Awards will also be given to the top six individual riders from each division and discipline in the heats. In addition to the competition prizes, one finalist team from each division will be awarded “Best Turned-Out”, selected and presented by Lo Wu Saddle Club.

As in previous years, the winning team of the Higher Division will be offered one week of professional training at the renowned Ingestre Stables in the UK. The winning team of the Lower Division will be offered a free training session with Ingestre’s Mr. Tim Downes, FBHS, in Hong Kong, and new for this year, vouchers for 50% discount on training at Stonar School Equestrian Centre in the UK.

The HKEF would like to congratulate all the teams who have reached the Inter-School Equestrian Challenge Finals and our appreciation goes to all riders who have competed in this year’s event. We would also like to express our gratitude to HKJC Tuen Mun Public Riding School and Lo Wu Saddle Club for providing the venues and horses, as well as all officials and volunteers who made the event possible.
