2019/03/19

Dear members,

Our annual flagship event, Horse of the Year Show 2019 will soon take place. This year, it will be kicked off by the Eventing Horse of the Year Show on the 30th March 2019 (Sat), followed by the LONGINES Jumping Horse of the Year Show on 27th April 2019 (Sat) and the finale is the Dressage Horse of the Year Show scheduled from 18 – 19 May 2019 (Sat to Sun).

As part of the continuous training programme for Dressage Judges, an end of season refresher and assessment exercise will be held during the Dressage Horse of the Year Show which will take place between Saturday 18th to Sunday 19th May 2019 at the Beas River Equestrian Centre.

The exercise will be in two parts:

Part A will be a written assessment paper based upon the rules and some practical scenarios. The assessment paper will be available from 9am on Saturday 18th May to be collected from the judge’s box.

The completed answers should be handed in no later than 5pm on Sunday 19th May.

Part B is a practical exercise whereby you are asked to shadow judge at least 6 competitors in any of the classes held over the two days. Please ask for additional score sheets to be provided for the class or classes which you wish to judge.

You should arrange your own writers for this part and the score sheets should be handed in together with you written answers on the assessment paper.

If you are a current listed judge who is judging during the competition no further shadow judging is required however you are encouraged to shadow judge the higher classes.

If you are a current listed judge who is not judging during the competition you should shadow judge at least 3 competitors at a level higher than you are currently eligible to judge.

Those holding relevant professional qualifications for teaching/coaching/training are asked to provide a curriculum vitae together with their answer and score sheets.

Those with an extensive competition experience are asked to provide a summary of their experience.

Listed judges and any member interested in becoming a listed judge are encouraged to take part in this exercise. Further any member who would like to know more about the principles behind dressage judging is also welcome to take part.
