Change of FEI National Head Veterinarian for Hong Kong

Please be informed that Dr. Christopher M. Riggs, Head of Mainland Veterinary Operations and former HKJC Veterinary Clinical Services Department Head will be stepping down as FEI National Head Veterinarian for Hong Kong at the end of this month. The HKEF is pleased to announce that Dr. Adrian Farrington, Equestrian Veterinary Surgeon / Executive Manager Veterinary Clinical Services, will take over the position as our new FEI National Head Veterinarian effective from 1 March 2020 onwards.  Being a specialist in surgery and orthopaedics, Dr. Riggs was awarded a PhD for research into causes of racehorse fractures in 1991 at the Royal Veterinary College, London. He also made numerous presentations at international meetings and contributed to over 75 peer-reviewed papers in scientific publications on the topics related to racehorse fractures. His greatest professional achievement was being Veterinary Services Manager at the 2008 Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games to oversee the safety of all horses participating in the equestrian events. During his time as FEI National Head Veterinarian since 2012, Dr. Riggs has actively officiated in many local FEI shows including FEI World Dressage and Jumping Challenges, Asian Equestrian Federation Junior Jumping Championship Hong Kong 2017 and CSI1* at LONGINES Jumping Horse of the Year Show 2018. His devotion and contributions were highly appreciated by all of us.

At the same time, we would like to welcome our new FEI National Head Veterinarian Dr. Adrian Farrington. A University of Bristol graduate, Dr. Farrington spent 6½ years in mixed and specialist equine practice in the U.K. before joining the HKJC Department of Veterinary Clinical Services in 2012. His main professional interests lie in the management of the sport horse, pre-purchase examination, and diagnostic imaging.

Dr. Farrington has been an FEI Official Veterinarian since 2012, officiating at FEI shows in Taiwan and China between 2014-17. He has been Team Vet for the Hong Kong Senior Equestrian Teams since 2016, proudly supporting our riders at the 2017 China National Games, 2017 Asian Eventing Championships, 2018 World Equestrian Games, and 2019 FEI Asian Championships. Dr. Farrington has been appointed as the Veterinary Services Manager for the Longines Masters of Hong Kong CSI5* since 2015, Cross Country Vet for Badminton Horse Trials CCI5* since 2016, and also Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials back in 2011. Last but not least, he has regularly supported the domestic FEI shows in a treating capacity.
